About the Role

As 2nd Officer on our humanitarian relief vessel, you will be responsible for supporting the Master and Chief Officer in all aspects of navigation, bridge operations, and vessel safety. This is a critical role that directly contributes to our ability to reach and assist coastal communities in crisis.

You'll work closely with our dedicated crew to ensure safe and efficient operations during extended missions along the African coastline. Your expertise in navigation, maritime safety, and bridge procedures will be essential in maintaining our vessel's operational readiness for emergency response situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in navigation and bridge watchkeeping duties
  • Maintain and update navigational charts and publications
  • Conduct safety inspections and emergency drills
  • Monitor weather conditions and route planning
  • Assist in cargo operations and stability calculations
  • Support medical evacuation and emergency response operations
  • Maintain bridge equipment and navigational aids
  • Assist in crew training and safety briefings
  • Coordinate with port authorities and local officials
  • Document voyage reports and maintain logbooks

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Valid STCW II/1 Certificate of Competency
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as 3rd Officer or equivalent
  • Valid medical certificate (ENG1 or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
  • Experience with ECDIS and modern bridge equipment

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in humanitarian or emergency response operations
  • Knowledge of African coastal waters and ports
  • Experience with cargo vessels or similar operations
  • Additional safety and security certifications
  • Multilingual skills (French, Portuguese, or Arabic)
