About the Role

As Purser on our humanitarian relief vessel, you will be responsible for managing all administrative aspects of vessel operations, crew welfare, and logistics coordination. This vital role ensures that our crew can focus on their humanitarian mission while you handle the essential administrative and operational support functions.

You'll work closely with the Master, Chief Officer, and shore-based management to maintain efficient vessel operations, manage crew documentation, coordinate logistics, and ensure compliance with maritime regulations. Your organizational skills and attention to detail will be crucial in supporting our mission to deliver aid to coastal communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage vessel administration and documentation
  • Coordinate crew welfare and accommodation arrangements
  • Handle port clearance and customs documentation
  • Manage vessel stores, provisions, and supplies
  • Coordinate logistics for humanitarian aid delivery
  • Maintain crew records and certification tracking
  • Handle financial transactions and expense management
  • Coordinate with local authorities and port officials
  • Manage communication with shore-based operations
  • Assist in emergency response coordination
  • Maintain vessel inventory and equipment records
  • Coordinate crew travel and repatriation arrangements

Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in maritime administration or logistics
  • Experience with maritime documentation and port procedures
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and maritime software systems

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in humanitarian or NGO operations
  • Knowledge of African ports and customs procedures
  • Experience with crew management and welfare
  • Logistics and supply chain management experience
  • Multilingual skills (French, Portuguese, or Arabic)
  • Maritime safety and security training
